A dispute is boiling over the ownership of a 30-acre land parcel said to have been set aside for the establishment of public utilities in Kipakabus, Uasin Gishu County.

Many projects such as Kipkabus Health Centre, Kipkabus Primary School, a public water point and a playgrounds for the youth, among others have been affected.

The county government of Uasin Gishu wants people claiming to own the said pieces of land to come out with clear documents ascertaining ownership to allow them continue with their planned activities.

Sh2.5 million has been set aside by the county government for the construction of Kipkabus Health Centre in Olare Ward.

Construction of the health centre however stalled because the residents claimed the land where construction was to take place belonged to them and not the government.

"The land that belongs to the hospital has been divided severally by private developers," said David Lagat, the Deputy sub-county official at the site.

Lagat says that those claiming ownership of this land should come forth and show the legal documents inclusive of the land title deeds.

According to Lagat, a one-week notice will be given, to allow them argue their case out before planned projects begin implementation.

"If they don’t show up, the board of management and other county government officials will assume that they don’t own any land. Hence all the plots will be returned to the government," he added

“All we need is development, therefore, let us sit down to discuss and come out with the final agreement on this land issue”, said Nicholas Chelule Maraba, the MCA of Ainabkoi-Olare Ward.
