Kisumu county governor Jack Ranguma has urged schools to start embrace agriculture and establish gardens to increase food security.

Speaking during the signing of contracts for five schools at the city hall, Governor Ranguma said that the county was introducing the concept of gardens in schools.

"The reason we want to promote school garden is that we realised that those who go to schools sometimes have no place to eat," said Ranguma.

He said it is important to develop the county school feeding program together with the school garden initiatve.

"It is an important aspect of education because we realised that when children are properly fed in schools then it also means that teachers will have a much easier time," he said.

The Kisumu Governor said that with feeding programs in place children will perform better.

"This I have witnessed because I have been the chairman of local school and we feel we must move in that direction to achieve better quality education," said Ranguma.

He added that a proper kitchen is required when a school feeding program is implemented in schools. He recommended renewable energy like the bio-gas digesting systems.
