A Nyamira-based Nongovernmental Organisation have raised an alarm over the rising cases of teen pregnancy.

According to Hope Arise International Chairlady Gladys Mokeira, they have recorded over 20 cases of school going children dropping from school due to early pregnancy in the last three months.

She added that the numbers are increasing over time, despite the fact that there are ongoing campaigns to  ensure that reduces.

Mokeira added that the numbers are alarming, and if the trend continues, the girl child is at a risk of completing her education and called upon parents, teachers and major stakeholders in the education industry to ensure that the trend stops.

Speaking during her visit to Talanta Children’s Home in Nyamira on Monday, she added that their organisation is currently committed towards ensuring that the numbers are dropping, by carrying out regular talks to the ongoing school girls and sensitising the community on the importance of educating the girl child.

“Its very shameful to see young girls as young as 14 years are pregnant and yet they can’t take care of even themselves and the children that they are yet to give birth to,” added Mokeira.

She lauded the ongoing campaigns from various organisations to empower the girl child and ensuring that they are getting better education.
