Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Mr Oscar Sudi has challenged religious leaders in Uasin Gishu county to advocate for peace and unity in the region.
Addressing a congregation during a fundraiser at St Johns Catholic Church in Chebaiywo Ward in Kesess on Sunday, Sudi said that religious leaders have a big role to play in spearheading unity among the people.
He stated that peace and unity will be maintained if religious leaders work with the government on peace campaigns.
“Church leaders should be part of the ongoing campaigns aimed at uniting Kenyans,” he said.
The Kapseret MP further asked religious leaders to speak out against societal evils and give direction on issues facing the country.
He noted that the country will be able to tackle corruption, insecurity and tribalism if religious leaders partner with the government.
At the same time, the Kapseret MP cautioned leaders in the region against divisive politics, adding that politics of division will not help address the challenges facing the people.
Sudi urged politicians in the region to focus on development. He asked politicians to stop early political campaigns saying that it is not yet time for campaiging.
“Time for politics and campaigns will come but for now, let us focus on delivering services to the people that elected us to office,” he said.
