Gatundu South residents have been urged to maintain high standards of hygiene in a bid to prevent hygiene related diseases like cholera.
Area Public Health Coordinator John Mwangi said cases of cholera outbreaks have been reported in other counties and cautioned residents against staying in unhygienic conditions as they risk contracting the disease.
Speaking in Gatundu Town on Tuesday during a health and nutrition sensitisation workshop,Mwangi said that residents should be cautious of the food and water they take.
"Water meant for drinking is especially very key when it comes to cholera infections. Let us not wash our clothes near water sources as this poses a huge health risk to many people," said Mwangi.
At the same time, he urged those who use borehole water for domestic consumption to keep the boreholes clean and covered to prevent them from contamination.
He further advised residents to take patients who exhibit signs of the disease to hospital early in order to receive the appropriate treatment.
