Residents of Kiambu are requesting for the installation of CCTV cameras in a bid to improve security in the area.
Speaking on Friday in Kiambu, Mr Peter Wakori noted that Kiambu Township is big and lack of surveillance posed a great danger of increased criminal activities.
He pointed out that banks and supermarkets were one of the public places where surveillance was working as they are the most targeted by criminals.
"Kiambu Township is really big and having CCTV cameras in supermarkets and banks only is not safe enough for the residents. It only leaves us more vulnerable to attacks. Following the increased attacks by the al-shaabab terror group, surveillance systems need to be improved greatly to help prevent any premeditated attack,” said Wakori.
He said criminals can plan to plant an explosive at a public area like a market and because there is no enough surveillance, no one will be able to know what happened during the night hours when everyone is asleep.
Wakori said the surveillance will also be of help to the police when they are undertaking investigations, making it easy for them to trace and identify culprits in case a crime occurs.
This comes after an explosive device was found underneath a car parked outside Kamidi Supermarket.
In response to the issue, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that plans were underway to introduce the surveillance system in order to enhance security in the area and avoid such cases of bomb scares.
