Residents of Masaba North sub-county in Nyamira now want the county government to consider stationing ambulances across the villages to attend to emergencies.
This comes days after two residents from Gachuba and Rigoma wards reportedly lost their lives last week with attempts to get the services from the county ambulances failing to yield fruits.
Speaking on Sunday at Gachuba, the residents led by former councilor Willis Kanyimbo said the ambulances were of no use if the county government failed to station them at different villages to attend to emergencies.
They said the move will enable residents attend to emergency cases if the medics were maneuvered in the ambulances across the county.
“Time has come for the county government to station ambulances with medics across the county. That will help us handle emergency medical cases. It is sometimes difficult to get the services because their response is quite slow,” he said.
They said it was there right to receive effective services from the county government since the ambulances were fueled by tax payers’ money.
"We need those ambulances to be stationed across the sub counties and not primarily in the hospitals where we have seen them before. They have to be near people to save lives,” he added.
However, county chief health officer Dr Douglas Bosire denied the allegations that emergency services were slow and urged residents to always contact their sub county offices for help.
“We are always very active when it comes to responding to emergencies. We do not have enough but may be the scarcity will be dealt with if a deal with Red Cross goes through. We will be hiring medics who will be attending to emergencies and villages once we sign the agreement with Red Cross,” he said.
