Residents of Mwongori village in Nyamira County have warned young girls for engaging in unlawful activities of terminating pregnancies.

This follows discovery of a mature foetus that was suspected to have been aborted and dumped in the area.

Speaking on Saturday after the tragic incident, speaker after speaker promised to educate young girls but gave a warning for whomever that may be found committing such kind of crimes.

They promised to collaborate with the area police and help in apprehension of the suspects in a bid to curb the crime which is said to have hit an alarming rate.

“This is unacceptable and this is the right time for us to tame these criminals. We are ready to work with police officers to help them apprehend suspects and this will start immediately. The law is very clear that abortion is a crime and that must be respected,” said Mrs Abby Oginda, village resident.

They called upon the police and local administration to make sure the suspects are identified, accusing them of letting them off the hook even after residents make some reports to them.

“Police and the local administration must be very vigilant and time has come for them to act whenever we make such reports. They should ensure they work with locals to tame that crime,” added Mrs Peris Ongeri, another villager.

The angry villagers are in pursuant of the young girl who is said to be the owner of the foetus and vowed to work with the area police to ensure the suspect is brought to book. The foetus was collected by Matutu Police officers for further investigations.
