Transport was paralysed in the better part of the morning when Kisii residents protested over the poor state of the Daraja Moja-Nyamataro road.

The residents closed the Kisii-Keroka and Kisii-Kisumu highways as they demanded a lasting solution from both the county and national governments.

They claimed the road was in a bad state and had caused huge loses in the transport sector.

The residents asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka to repair the road which they said is impassable.

“We have for a long time now complained over the poor state of the road but our concerns are unfortunately falling on deaf ears. This prompted us to come to the streets to show our leaders that we are dissatisfied with their service to us,” said John Edward, a resident in the area.

“We have incurred a lot of loses and witnessed several accidents because of the poor state of this road. We appeal to the county and national governments to look into the issue and help us. Our MP should repair the road for us,” said Joseph Ondieki, a driver.

However, in his response to the issue, Kisii Governor James Ongwae said roads of that class are a preserve of the national government.
