Gatundu South retired teachers have welcomed the High Court's ruling to award them Sh42 billion worth of pensions.
Addressing jornalists on Friday in Gatundu Town, the teachers, led by their Chairman, Gideon Kariuki, the teachers said that they have been waiting for long and the court ruling was a reprieve to them.
"It has been a long journey full of uncertainties but we are glad that we have been able to get here. So many of our retired colleagues have died in extreme poverty while still waiting for this money," said Kariuki.
Kariuki also noted that they have spent a lot of money in endless court cases which have left them even more poor.
The chairman appealed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite the payments to the teachers seeing that many are in their sunset years.
"Majority of our colleagues could not even come here because they are old and weak. What we would appeal to TSC is to pay us that money as soon as possible so that we can at least have a taste of our long awaited fruits," said Kariuki.
