School leavers from Riakemuma village who did not make it to either secondary schools or tertiary institutions after completing their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams have been encouraged to enroll for technical courses in local village polytechnics.

This, according Mr Hezekiah Ogega, Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman in the village, will help them acquire technical skills to back up their basic education with technical skills which are most sought in the fast changing economy.

Mr Ogega has tipped young people from the village on the importance of embracing technical courses in case they do not enroll for their secondary education, they can use technical skills acquired from village polytechnics to either create self employment or others through establishment of technical skills related home craft industries.

Mr Ogega observed that majority of the local young people who sat their KCPE exams continued roaming in the village and shopping centres doing nothing to improve on their basic education to contribute to the country's economic growth.

"I am encouraging both parents and young people who have sat for their KCPE examinations and failed to continue with their education to consider enrolling for technical courses in local youth polytechnics to enhance their chances of securing employment opportunities both in the informal and formal sector as such skills in high demand in the current economy," he advised.
