Residents of Rigena village in Nyamache Sub County have urged the government to investigate and take actions against individuals’ allegedly practicing abortion.

Speaking in the region on Thursday, they condemned increasing cases of abortion besides calling for apprehension of doctors who are believed to be executing the crime.

This comes a day after a body of a mature fetus was found dumped in the region, the forth case in less than three months.

“Abortion is illegal and no one should be allowed to execute the crime. The rate at which we are seeing our girls and women engaging in the crime is very high and it is unacceptable. The government should arrest both the women and Doctors who are helping them to commit the crime,” said Alfred Onkundi.

According to them, the provincial administration has failed to act on some of the cases that they have brought before them, leading to escalation of the matter.

“I want to remind the area chief that it is the responsibility of provincial administration to act on behalf of the government whenever we bring such cases. He has failed to deal with certain cases that we have reported,” added Dalphine Manwa.

However, area Assistant Chief Gedion Ombong’i defended the provincial administration from the scathing attacks besides asking parents to educate their children against the vices of abortion.

“The fact is that parents should be held liable since they know when such crimes are committed. We are ready to work together and apprehend the suspects and subject them to the due process,” he said.
