Police in Rongai have called on the public to help them trace the whereabouts of two men said to be terrorising residents.

Speaking at Bunda Trading Centre along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at a scene where the two are said to have unsuccessfully tried to hijack a lorry on Tuesday morning, Rongai AP commandant Lameck Maragi asked for cooperation to help nab the duo.

“We have dispatched several officers to facilitate the manhunt because we believe the suspects are from within,” he said, adding that they suspect the two are behind a series of attacks that residents have complained about in the recent past.

According to the AP commandant, the suspects who were riding a motorbike attacked the crew of the lorry en-route to Nairobi after being loaded with goods from a local factory.

“Their attempts to force the driver to stop failed but they ended up plunging into a ditch. The conductor gave a chase but they managed to out run him leaving behind an AK 47 rifle,” he said.

Maragi confirmed that the rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and a police jacket were recovered. Cases of highway robbery have been on the rise along the busy highway but police are confident that the perpetrators will soon be arrested.
