Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has hailed the formation of the Kisumu County Roving Ambassadors from the private sector to help market the county.

The roving ambassadors is an initiative of Governor Jack Ranguma whose aim is to tap prospective investors interested in establishing businesses in the county.

Ruth said the idea was brilliant and the county will reap enormous returns from the ambassadors.

“I must confess that the idea of roving ambassadors was well thought and will go a long way in assisting this county fix some of its priorities,” she said.

She said the county government needs to ensure that residents understand the work of the ambassadors and what the county stands to gain from their expertise.

Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday in the sidelines of a Civil Society Organisations forum, Ruth said the eight ambassadors unveiled by Governor Ranguma two months ago consist of people with rich background in diverse fields.

The deputy governor said the ambassadors have set the agenda and are working round the clock to bring in investors and resources to spur growth in the county.

“You will be amazed by the professional backgrounds of the ambassadors. Everybody is on board, they are doing a wonderful job, marketing the county and looking for resources,” she said.

Ruth said already, one of the ambassadors is planning to bring fiber optic to Kisumu to scale up the use of technology.

Notable figures in the eight roving ambassadors include song bird Susanna Owiyo who will tackle culture and heritage and Nazir Khamisa, from Vila Rosa to advice on hospitality industry and tourism.
