Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has called for unity and tolerance among leaders and residents of Nakuru County saying that their unity will help propel development.

Speaking during a fundraiser drive at St Teresa Catholic church in Rhonda estate, Kaptebwo Ward on Sunday, the deputy governor said every leader and citizen residing in the county must work towards promoting peace.

He said Nakuru will be able to outshine other counties in terms of development if there is unity.

Ruto noted that the county will be able to address challenges facing it if leaders and residents work together.

He said political differences and ideologies should not be the reason for conflict and disagreements among leaders.

“We need to embrace unity as leaders and people of Nakuru County if we have to achieve the development goals we have set in place,” he said.

He said the county is host to tribes from different communities and that unity of the communities is what is required.

Ruto said the county government recognises the need for unity noting that it is the first step towards ensuring peace and development.

The deputy governor asked religious leaders in the county to be on the front line in preaching peace and tolerance as religion holds an integral part in development of the society.

Ruto also asked stakeholders and professional groups to support the county government's efforts aimed at ensuring harmony among the many communities in the county.
