Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies (Saccos) have over the years played a leading role in uplifting living standards of Masinga residents.

This is according to Masinga Sub-County Co-operative Officer, Daniel Kirigia who says that the youth should take advantage of Saccos to economically empower themselves by borrowing to fund their income generating projects.

The Co-operative officer said that Saccos were instrumental in spurring growth especially because of their soft lending strategies which were friendly to most of the rural people.

Kirigia made the remarks while presenting the Muthesya Ward Bodaboda Sacco officials a certificate to operate in their offices at Masinga market on Friday.

The officer said that about 60 percent of Saccos in the sub-county were active and were playing an important role in empowering their members to borrow loans and fund projects.

He however cautioned management committees of respective Saccos to be transparent to members to avoid suspicion, which he says could easily lead to wrangles.

Kirigia commended the bodaboda riders for their foresightedness in initiating a Sacco which he says will be responsive to their common interests.
