The Sarang’ombe ward administration led by MCA Pius Owino K’Otieno on Thursday launched its strategic plan for 2016/2018 that is estimated to cost Sh 546.3 million for its implementation.
In the strategic plan, water and sanitation have been given a relatively bigger allocation in terms of expenditure as compared to other areas.
This is approximately Sh102 million that is meant to improve the number of households with piped water, number of community service centers established with tanks to supply clean water and installation of sewer systems.
Addressing the public at Kamukunji grounds during the launch, Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who was the chief guest said a large water tank will be established in the area where residents will have access to water through taps modified to automated teller machines (ATMs).
“Just as we have agreed with the committee here, I shall install one tank for every tank that is erected through this strategic plan. Our people should start using ATMs to draw water from the tanks with as cheap as 50 cents per 20 litre jerrican,” said Kidero.
The ward has estimated a budget of Sh 74 million for the education sector; an amount that will see through the improvement of ICT in schools, employing more teachers, construction of more secondary schools , and to promote adult education in a bid to reduce illiteracy level.
The health sector shall require Sh 76.5 million to help in reduction of infant mortality rate, strengthening community health facilities, deworming of children, and reduction of non-communicable diseases.
Other areas targeted in the plan include technology, infrastructure and energy, access to finance and livelihood.
According to K’Otieno, the plan was developed by the ward residents between March-July 2015, with financial and technical support of his office together with other stakeholders.
“This document clearly articulates the aspirations of Sarang’ombe residents and how they visualise development in their region. We have received support from I Choose Life-Africa, Centre of Economic Governance and Nairobi Chapel,” said K’Otieno.
