School children from Giasaiga sub-location in Sameta sub-county have been warned against sheltering under trees during heavy rains to avoid lighting strikes.
Sunrise Junior Academy headteacher Titus Momanyi warned school children against taking risks by sheltering under trees during heavy downpours pounding the area.
He reminded them that such a move exposed them to dangers from thunder strikes.
Speaking at the School yesterday, Mr Momanyi lamented that despite the school administrations taking the children's safety seriously during the rainy seasons, it was ironical that some children defied such wise counsel from their teachers and parents only to play in the rains and flash floods, endangering their lives.
Mr Momanyi advised children to take precautionary measures whenever they encounter heavy rains either on their way from or to school.
He said they should shelter in secure places and not under trees which he said exposed them to dangers of lighting.
"Iam warning school children from this school and around the local communities that sheltering under trees during heavy rains was dangerous to their lives and in case of thunder strikes they may lose their lives," stated Momanyi.
The headteacher, however, challenged parents from the area to monitor their children from and to school, especially young children to ensure they do not get tempted into playing in flash floods and crossing overflowing rivers and streams which may sweep them away.
