Uasin Gishu secondary shool principals have been urged to improve the quality of education in their schools, to enable students join universities in large numbers.
Speaking on Sunday at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters, County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said that schools in the region should set higher targets and not aim at mere passes.
He said that education curriculum improvement should be implemented fully in order to improve education standards in the region.
“I call on all education stakeholders in the area to cooperate and ensure they provide the essential physical learning facilities in school to enhance effective teaching and learning, where poor performance is attributed to lack of necessary learning facilities,” he said.
Chemno appealed to parents in the county to work as a team and support education programmes to improve the education standards in the region, and further called on school heads to introduce guiding and counselling departments in schools.
He challenged advised students to maintain high discipline, noting that it is the key to success in the final examination.
He also cautioned students against consuming alcohol and drugs, saying that this has contributed to dismal performance in national examinations in the area.
