School leavers in Nyamira County have been urged to enroll in technical training colleges to acquire skills and knowledge that will help them cope with the fast changing demands of the job market.

Addressing residents in Kebirigo Market early Tuesday, Nyamira County Assembly majority Leader Laban Masira said that technical skills will open doors for young people to exploit the emerging opportunities in the job market.

He said students should not think consider their form four certificate as the end of their studies, and should join technical training colleges.

“Currently, there is a shortage of technical officers and soon we will be hiring them, this will help address the issue of high rate of unemployment among the youth," said Masira. 

He also urged youths to embrace agriculture as a business, which will help improve their living standards.

Masira also noted that the county is devoted towards sponsoring more students to join polytechnics, since they have already pumped money to facilitate various polytechnic institutions in the county.

He blamed parents for not giving their children adequate advise on the importance of joining various tertiary institutions.
