A school director in Kisii has called for the introduction of counselling sessions in schools to guide learners on various issues involving their education.

The Director of Elimu Academy Mrs Hellen Kombo has underscored the importance of having psychosocial counselling sessions in learning institutions as part of the learning process in the education sector.

Speaking to jornalists at her office after the conclusion of the School's Annual Fun Day on Friday, Kombo observed that counselling sessions will minimise cases of indiscipline and enhance good performance in national examinations.

She pointed out that her school stresses on psychosocial counselling as a strategy behind good performance and holistic character formation.

She added, "Our School stresses on counselling of the students and we have assigned each teacher a certain number of pupils to counsel through a parent-children model."

"This makes it possible to ensure close supervision and  interaction between the pupils and their teachers," she added.

Through the sessions, Kombo clarified that pupils are not only counselled on various issues, but they are also taught life skills and positive virtues that are applicable on their day-to-day lives.
