A section of parents from Nyamira County have urged headteachers to strengthen the guidance and counselling departments in their schools as one way of ending strikes.
According to two parents who spoke to Hivisasa on Monday, the guidance and counselling department will help prevent the frequent student unrest and fire outbreaks being witnessed in some schools in the country.
They said some of the students fall prey after being influenced by their colleagues hence the need to guide them on how to deal with peer pressure.
Joshua Nyarago said the blame should not only be on parents whenever students go on strike. He said in some cases, it’s the school’s management which is to blame for the chaos.
“We need our schools to have a strong guidance and counselling team to stem cases of student unrest,” said another parent, Sarah Moingina.
The two also urged others leaders to join hands with school managements in getting solutions to the matter.
Sarah called for a thorough probe into the recent student strikes in a bid to curbing them.
There have been several fire outbreaks in some schools in Nyamira County this year, raising concerns over the safety of students.
