Local security officers were on Saturday deployed on Mombasa Road in hundreds in a bid of beefing up security shortly after the road was opened.
Athi River Deputy County Commissioner, Kodeck Makori, said there was need for the area around the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and its environs to remain under tight security even when the visiting US President, Barack Obama and his envoy were at the Nairobi's central business district.
The highway had been closed on Friday afternoon at around 2.00 pm and several hours later after the aircraft carrying the president, Air force One landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi at 8.00pm on Friday night.
Makori who was speaking on Saturday morning said the security officers that included administration, general service, regular police among others had been deployed in numbers to keep vigil in Athi River, Mlolongo, Syiokimau and at KAPA, along the Mombasa Superhighway few meters away from JKIA entrance.
Athi River police boss, Kizito Mutoro said security officers would be supplied in certain specific areas already identified by them in hundreds for the next two days until the visiting president's exit from the country.
"We do not want to take any chance, this areas have to be well secured even if the most powerful man in the world is away in Nairobi town," said Mutoro.
Mutoro said the Athi River security team were working together with a Nairobi team and in collaboration with foreign security agents from the United States to ensure that security was enhanced everywhere.
He said Athi River sub county is situated within the Nairobi area hence the reason why security team from the region was among the most involved officers in ensuring security during the visit.
