The youth have been asked to seek career guidance before joining learning institutions to ensure they end up in careers they are best suited for.

According to St Ann’s College Kisii principal Calvin Nyakwara who spoke to hivisasa on Monday at his office, several young people join colleges without proper knowledge of what their chosen courses entail and they end up dropping out halfway.

He said others end up being stuck in careers that are not fulfilling to them since they could not afford to shift.

Nyakwara said that there is need for youth to seek guidance and to have some knowledge on the courses they want to take before enrolling in training institutions.

“Some of the youth join the university to pursue just any course, but it is better for someone to take the course that he is comfortable in,” said Nyakwara.

He also warned parents against forcing their children to follow certain career paths saying they should rather provide them with information for the students themselves to make informed decisions.

“Parents need to know and identify the talents of their children without forcing them to do what they are not willing to do,” he said.
