Women in Kibera’s Kisumu Ndogo have been urged to seek help in resolving domestic conflicts instead of picking up fights with their husbands.

Speaking to this writer at the chief’s office on Wednesday, Kisumu Ndogo village elder Maureen Agola said women need to be educated on how to deal with challenges in marriage saying cases of domestic conflict have became rampant in the area.

“As an elder, I have witnessed different cases but most of them are about marriage. They have become rampant in the past two months,” said Agola.

“We have witnessed cases where husbands have been burnt with hot water, others assaulted with blunt objects by their wives. It is a shame and it’s against the African society norm for a wife to batter her husband. As a wife, one needs to respect the husband and learn to resolve marital issues in a peaceful manner,” she added.

Agola now wants women in the area to evaluate themselves and try to open up about any actions that lead to marital conflicts so that they can be helped on how to avoid them.

She urged women in the area to form groups where they can exchange ideas and get help from their colleagues.
