Kambu sub-county nursing officer Teresia Mbua has urged expectant women from the region to seek medical assistance during delivery.
Speaking to expectant mothers at Kiambu District Hospital on Tuesday, Mbua urged pregnant women to stop delivering at home saying this endangers their lives and those of their babies.
“My plea to all women in this region is to seek maternity services from hospitals and stop delivering at home,” said the nurse.
She added that cases of women dying due to birth complications have been on the rise in Kiambu, something that should not be happening in this day and age.
“We should not be hearing cases of death due to birth complications in an era where maternity services are offered free of charge in government hospitals. Birth attendants back at home have no expertise to handle cases on birth complications. This leads to the death of many women, which could have definitely been avoided had they visited a hospital,” said Mbua.
The nursing officer added that medics from Kiambu sub-county are just a phone call away and the residents can call them in case of emergencies.
“Our doctors are just a phone call away and you only need to call them in case somebody falls sick and they will be attended to you. They are more than willing to offer assistance where need be,” she said.
