Health workers in Uasin Gishu County who will be found selling drugs from public hospitals will be sacked.
Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said on Wednesday that it was unacceptable for patients to suffer for lack of drugs and yet the government uses billions of taxpayers’ money to ensure there is a steady supply of drugs in hospitals.
He said such officers will be shown the door and replaced with competent ones.
"We have received reports that some health workers have been selling drugs and we are following up on some leads. Soon we will bring the culprits to book," Chemno said.
He urged the public to be vigilant and report any medical officer they suspect to be selling drugs meant for public hospitals, noting that stern action will be taken against them.
"Uasin County government has spent a whooping Sh30 million for the purchase of drugs and we will not relent while someone is selling them to enrich themselves," concluded the deputy governor.
