Molo Administration Police Commandant Joseph Mwangi has urged local leaders in the sub-county to sensitise residents on the Nyumba Kumi initiative.

Speaking when he met security officials in Molo Town on Friday, Mwangi said the Nyumba Kumi intiative will help in the fight against crime if residents are sensitised about it.

The commandant said that the surging crime in some parts of the sub-county can be reversed if residents embraced the initiative.

Mwangi said the police alone cannot effectively fight crime if they have no information on suspected criminals, noting that it was the responsibility of every citizen including leaders to help fight crime.

“Our security will improve only if the public are sensitised and encouraged to embrace the Nyumba Kumi programme and other security measures that we are implementing,” he said.

Mwangi further asked chiefs and local leaders to monitor their respective areas and report suspected criminals.

The AP commandant at the same time warned criminals saying that they will be hunted down.

He said the police will increase surveillance and patrols across the sub-county.

Several cases of crime have been reported in some parts of the sub-county.

On Tuesday, boda boda operators in Molo Town held demonstrations over deteriorating security.

The riders alleged that one of their colleagues had been murdered and robbed by unknown people.

But Mwangi assured residents of security and urged them to cooperate with the police as they fight crime and streamline security across the sub-county.
