Six men were on Wednesday fined Sh30,000 each or spend three months in jail by a Kikuyu court for lacking identification cards.

The prosecution told the court that on the August 25, they were arrested in different places in Kikuyu Sub-County between 7 pm and 10pm. All seven were found lacking national identification cards.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate James Ogweno, they all pleaded guilty to the charges. Ogweno sentenced each to three months in jail or pay fine of Sh30,000.

However Fanuel Njeru, one of the accused, pleaded for leniency saying that the fine was too high for him to afford.

He said that he was a casual labourer in construction site and the breadwinner of his family of five. Njeru asked the court to reduce his fine.

The court heard his plea and reduced his fine to Sh10,000.
