Mavoko assistant county commissioner, David Tegutwa, has said skating is a dangerous sport and therefore those engaged in it should seize from using busy roads in Athi River.
Addressing journalists in Athi River Town on Thursday, Tegutwa said the number of youth skating on the roads within the region had increased.
"I am disturbed by the high number of skaters who use our busy roads to do their sports on a daily basis. They are risking and therefore have to stop immediately," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa said the Nairobi-Namanga and Nairobi-Mombasa highways and other busy roads such as Muleys, KMC and Paulorama in Athi River Town are some of the roads which are popular among the skaters.
According to Tegutwa, these roads among others are always busy with vehicles of all sorts; some speeding as others ferry dangerous goods and loads, hence the skaters risk being knocked down by the speeding vehicles.
Tegutwa said that the skaters should use safer zones to enjoy their sport such as pavements on the Nairobi-Namanga Road which is usually used by pedestrians only.
He called on the youth to be more careful while engaging in the sport so as to remain safe at all times.
