The assistant national secretary of the Kenya national union of teachers, John Matiang’i, has warned the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) against engaging in teachers matters.

Matiang’I said that SRC should keep off teachers’ affairs, saying they do not fall under its mandate.

“SRC is intruding the mandate of other commission, we are under Teachers Service Commission," said Matiang’i.

He said the union is uncomfortable with the TSC engaging the SRC to determine the financial implications of their pay increase demands.

Matiang’i further warned teachers not to fill forms during evaluations.

The acting secretary urged the government to ensure that security has been restored in the north-eastern part of the country to so that teachers can work there.

“We are so saddened that there is a part of this nation were no learning takes place because of lack of teachers due to insecurity reasons,” said Matiang’i.

He said that the government should involve key stakeholders in discussing ways to restore peace in the northern parts of the nation.
