Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has called politicians in the county to shun retrogressive politics and instead focus on development.

Speaking at Nyamira Uhuru Gardens during Mashujaa Day celebrations on Tuesday, the governor urged residents to condemn the behaviour.

He advised politicians to look for alternative ways to drive their agenda instead of engaging in what he called "politicising everything".

The governor said the practice was aimed at derailing development and protecting the old political order. He called upon all leaders to ensure they delivered on the expectations of their electorates.

“I am committed to serving the people of Nyamira and to initiate development programs that change their lives. If after building them roads, constructing and equipping hospitals, and drilling boreholes, offering quality ECDE education and changing their lives for the better they reject me in 2017, so be it,” he said.

He said he supported politics that inspired people and positively impacted on their livelihoods "not political bickering and fighting".

Nyagarama further urged people from the region to unite behind their leaders for them to move forward, to speak in one voice and reject divisive politics.
