Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan has warned striking teachers against invading private schools that are currently on with learning.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Abdi said that he has received credible information that teachers’ officials, during their prayer meeting on Thursday at TAC centre in Eldoret, planned to raid private schools starting Monday, and warned them against such acts.
“Teachers should conduct their strike peacefully, any misbehavior will not be tolerated. I urge Teachers’ officials to stop inciting teachers against private schools since their employers are not the same and such act will be treated as criminal and you will be arrested and prosecuted on the same,” he said
On Thursday, during a prayer session that brought together teachers including KUPPET Uasin Gishu Branch Secretary General Rosemary Mrundu, Chepkoilel KNUT Branch Secretary General Sammy Bor and Wareng KNUT Branch Secretary General John Bor vowed to invade all private primary and secondary schools that are continuing with studies and force them to join in the strike.
“From Monday, if TSC could have not effected the 50-60 percent pay increase, we will paralyze learning in all private schools since we cannot be on the ground fighting for the rights of teachers while others are teaching and yet at one time they will be employed by TSC, we won’t allow such,” they said.
