There seems to be more talents in Kibera than any other places in Nairobi. This has been a force behind to push for kibera music festivals competitions annually.

This year’s annual music competitions held at Olympic Primary in Kibera was attended by 48 schools which was a decrease from last year’s attendance of 60 schools.

There were approximately 3,000 students who attended the competition which came to a closure on Sunday evening.

According to kibera constituency liaison officer Mr Vincent Ayako, the competitions are healthy for talent nurturing.

“The aim of this competition is to promote education access among children and school going children. We cultivate talents and manage them among school children,” said Ayako.

Organised by the area member of parliament Ken Akoth and sponsored by equity bank, Uchumi supermarket, plan international, KCB, Dairy land and Action Aid, the competitions kicked off on Saturday. Participant were from primary and secondary schools.

Youths who do not go to schools were also encouraged to attend. Esther conqueror moved the crowd when she performed her country music song titled ‘Down River Road’ which was encouraging youths and children to follow their dreams.

The seventh annual event came to close at a peak with winners being awarded trophies, books, diaries and printed Tshirts.

Its theme Elimu Kwanza, Education First was said to be the best according to parents who attended. Simon Allan said children should embrace education for is the key to life.
