A politician in West Mugirango constituency now wants the area MP to invest more in education following dissatisfaction from youth in institutions of higher learning.

James Gesami is facing fierce criticism from university students who claim the CDF committee has been ignoring applications for bursaries submitted by them.

Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with West Mugirango University Students Association, Peter Oire said the MP has disregarded calls to invest in education which is key to development.

“We are not always here to criticise leaders but they must as we take advice from ordinary citizens. It is sad that students can be denied bursaries yet some of them should be genuine beneficiaries. He should invest in the education because that is where we ought to concentrate,” he said.

Mr Oire said institutions from the region had received a raw deal from the CDF kitty with a number of them said to be in deplorable conditions due to old structures.

“I know a number of schools which I am ready to mention if asked that puts lives of learners in a big risk. They might collapse and kill our children. The primary role of CDF is to spar growth by promoting development at rural areas and education is one of such sectors that should be supported,” Oire added.

He further challenged the area MP to increase allocation to each university students from the current Sh5,000 to Sh15,000.

Attempts to get comment from MP Gesami were futile as his mobile phone was switched off.
