Residents bordering Suneka airstrip in Kisii want the county Government to give them the bigger share of employment opportunities during and after the upgrade.

Speaking to HiviSasa on Sunday, residents urged the county government through the ministry of lands, public works and transport to give them priority during selection of workers for the upgrade process.

Led by retired chief John Nyabuti the residents said that the community had offered its land for the construction of the airstrip and deserved to derive most benefit from the rehabilitation.

“As residents of Suneka we urge the county Government to give us a big share of jobs during the process of upgrading it,” said Nyabuti.

Nyabuti added that there were many young people in the area who could be absorbed for full employment after the upgrading of the airstrip.

This comes a week after a tour by the Kisii county government officials at the Airstrip for mapping ahead of the commencement of constructions. The tour was lead by the chief officer in the Ministry of Lands Samuel Ongoncho.
