Suneka residents want the Kisii County government to compensate before they move to allow the upgrade of the Suneka Airstrip.

The residents live near the area want compensation expedited as the government completes plans to upgrade the airstrip.

Mapping of the field where expansion is expected to take place began on Tuesday and construction ois expected to begin soon.

Speaking to hivisasa on Tuesday at Suneka Kisii county the residents led by Pamela Morang’ a noted that they are ready to move to allow for development but asked the government to compensate them so that they look for alternative places to relocate.

“We don’t want to oppose development done by our county government, we are ready to move because we are near the strip and we need to be compensated earlier,”said Morang'a.

According to the Samwel Ongocho, The chief officer for Lands, Public Works and Transport who was addressing journalists yesterday at suneka the government has finalized plans to upgrade the airstrip.

“The upgrade will involve the widening of the runway as well as the construction of  a VIP lounge in Suneka airstrip,” said
