A man has been rescued from an angry mob by police from Kikuyu Police Station after allegedly snatching a woman’s mobile phone in Kikuyu Town.
The man who survived by a whisker was thoroughly beaten by angry residents who were on the verge of burning him for his behaviour before police arrived to rescue him.
According to an eyewitness, Francis Njenga, the man snatched the woman’s phone while she was speaking to someone on it. He added that the man snatched the phone and threatened to beat her up if she dared to scream.
Njenga revealed that the thieves have been operating as a gang in the area for a while and when one attacks you, the rest are always there to defend you in case of anything. He said that when the lady screamed, the two who were waiting started condemning her in the act of confusing the public.
The victim, Rose Njoki, said the attacker told her not to scream or else she will be hurt.
Kikuyu Officer Commanding Station Joshua Arende said that the criminal was in police custody and he would be dealt with accordingly.
‘’It is also against the law to take law into your own hands, so the public were also committing crime. I want to warn those with such behaviours to stop and handover such victims to the police for action to be taken,’’ said Arende.
