A 45-year-old man suspected to be the leader of a youthful gang that has been terrorising Lari residents was on Monday arrested.
The man known as Philip Mureithi is said to be a leader of different gangs in Kiambu; the 'Raia' gang that was based in Kikuyu, 'Wenyeji' gang that was previously a menace in Lari and the recent 'ganja' gang.
Lari OCS Peter Ouko said that the suspect was ambushed in is house and arrested after being identified by residents through the area Nyumba Kumi Initiative.
He revealed that in his house police recovered 6 bullets and expensive jewellery that police suspect were stolen during a past robbery in Limuru.
The OCS said the suspect is alleged to have been recruiting teenagers into the activity and also providing financing for firearms.
"The suspect is in police custody as interrogations and investigations continue," he said.
Ouko warned the youth against joining the gang saying members will soon be arrested to face the full force of the law.
"This is the beginning of winning over these gangs. The suspect is said to be a leader of different gangs that have been instilling fear to residents," he added.
The OCS sought to dispel any fears that the residents may have about a possible retaliation by gang members after the arrest of their alleged leader.
He assured residents of their safety and of constant police patrols while asking them to remain calm.
