A middle aged woman on Tuesday escaped death by a whisker in Jogoo, Kisii after a plan by residents to set her ablaze after suspecting she was a witch were thwarted by police.
This came after a 12-year-old pupil from Jogoo Primary School went missing from their home on Sunday night and later found on Monday morning.
At the time he was found, the boy could not speak but was able to identify the woman alleged to have taken her from home while they were on their way to the hospital for treatment.
The area residents then demanded that she spits on the pupil as is usually the tradition in the Gusii tradition for him to speak again. It did not disappoint as the pupil started speaking.
The residents said that they were tired of being disturbed by witches in the area adding they should all be burnt.
"I am surprised that witches in this place disturb even little children who have not wronged anyone and if this is the trend they should be burnt. All of them should be burnt because they derail the development of the community and this is punishable," said one of the residents.
