In an effort aimed to increase tea production in Nyamira county, the local government has launched a programme to provide subsidised and better quality organic manure to the farmers.
The decision was made after they realised that the use of the inorganic fertiliser has continued to increase soil acidity leading to poor production of tea in the area.
While touring the tea farms in Ting’a area on Wednesday evening, the CS in charge of Agriculture Ms. Peris Oroko affirmed that the county government is exploring all measures to ensure that tea production remains a stable cash crop in the area in order to boost the income of the farmers.
She added that the fertilisers that will be offered to the farmers has been researched on and will be fit for the soil and will therefore increase tea productivity.
The manure which has been sourced from various parts within and out of the county will be sold at Sh. 15 per 10-kilo bucket.
