Small scale tea farmers from Kisii region have been advised to utilise their bonuses wisely and use the money they earn to improve their farming.

Addressing farmers on Monday at Itibo area, ward representative Samwel Nyanchama warned the farmers against misusing the money in non-income generating activities and drinking of illicit brew.

Nyanchama said there have been conflicts in the past involving various families over misuse of the bonus money, and called on all families to make sure that the habit is gotten rid of.

The MCA also called upon parents to ensure that they have paid school fees for their children; especially those who fully depend of the bonus as their only way of income.

He said that this year, most farmers in the region will earn an average of Sh20 per kilo of delivered tea.

The KTDA management early last week announced that tea bonuses for the farmers who delivered their produce to the agency’s factories across the country will receive their payment in October.
