Ten laboratory technicians have so far been arrested in Uasin Gishu County for operating illegally.
The Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) officers raided hospitals in the county in an inspection exercise to establish adherence to health provision requirements.
Speaking at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital on Sunday, KMTTLB executive officer Patrick Kisabei said that some of those arrested were found working in medical laboratories in both private and public health facilities that have not adhered to standards while others lacked the necessary documents.
"Our Mission is to ensure that all medical laboratory technicians and technologists are certified," he said.
Kisabei regretted that despite healthcare provision being a basic right as enshrined in the constitution, quacks have compromised the prescribed quality standards and are potentially harming innocent people.
"We have arrested two lab technicians from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital while the rest are from private hospitals," he added.
He warned medical laboratory technicians operating without licences that the board would catch up with them and ensure they are prosecuted.
"The management of hospitals should ensure that they employ qualified and licensed personnel," he stressed.
