Thika Boda boda Association on Friday morrning launched a campaign to educate its members on the need to pay taxes to the Kiambu government.

Chairman, Johanna Kimani led his members to Thika stadium, Kiwanja and Mangu stages and Uhuru highway to urge the riders to comply with the county’s levy rules.

He said the objective of the drive is to ensure the operators pay the Sh20 levy that the county government has imposed on them.

"I am very happy this morning that you heeded my call to have all of us informed that we have a duty to pay levies to our county government. Paying taxes will promote development in Thika. And for us to avoid trouble, let us observe traffic rules, pay taxes and be peaceful,” he said.

Kimani noted that Kiambu is the second county after Murang’a that levies cheap taxes for bodaboda operators which he said encourages more youths into the business.

He urged youths to shun immorality by being innovative in job creation.

Kimani further revealed that the county government had the good will to help youths make a living by creating a conducive business environment.

County Finance minister Dominic Gicheru who joined the operators encouraged them to be peaceful and observe traffic rules.

The campaign that started at 9:30 at Tuskys supermarket is expected to run till evening at Makongeni market in Thika.
