The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has donated various kits to Thika people living with disability worth Sh427,000, MP Alice Ng’ang’a has confirmed.
The donations which included wheelchairs, carpentry kits, sewing machines, welding kits, hair salon equipment and knitting machines will be presented to the people with disability in their respective locations from Tuesday.
Speaking when she met a section of people living with disability on Monday morning, Ng’ang’a said that only the registered people will benefit.
She said that the NFPK was now embarking on capacity building for the people with disability in Thika Sub-County and added that she will ensure everyone benefits.
The Thika Town MP says commercial banks and other lending institutions have realised the potential of people with disability in running business activities and was very willing to give them soft loans.
She, however, appealed to the community to register people and children with disability and to reduce stigma saying much help was available to help them lead a normal life.
Ng’ang’a said the government was working hard to assist such people but stressed that this could only be achieved if they are allowed to come out openly to realise their potentials.
