Three fishermen drowned in Lake Naivasha on Wednesday night during a fishing expedition.

Three others, who survived the ordeal, after braving the raging waters, are receiving treatment at Kijabe Mission Hospital where they were taken this morning.

According to Lake Naivasha Boat Owners' Association chairman David Kilo, the six fishermen had just finished fishing and were returning to the shore when their boat capsized.

"It was around 7pm. The six men were coming to the shore when it started to rain and the waves became stronger capsizing their boat," Kilo told journalists on Thursday morning at the lake's shore.

He adds: "Three were able to swim and were rescued by other fishermen. The other three were overwhelmed by the waves and drowned in the lake."

Two bodies have already been recovered while an operation to retrieve the other remaining body is ongoing. Kilo has appealed to fishermen in the lake to be wearing life jackets saying the six were not wearing them.
