Three people were on Friday arraigned before a Kisumu law court for allegedly brewing illicit liquor and conducting business without a permit from the relevant authorities.
Anne Akinyi, Stephen Omondi and Paul Okutoyi who are from the same family, however, denied the charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari.
The court heard that the three who are residents of Otonglo in Kisumu County have been selling the outlawed liquor to the public over unknown period of time without a licence.
The three were arrested on Tuesday when Police raided their home and destroyed over ten thousands litres of illicit liquor. Some of the equipment seized was presented in court as exhibits.
The Prosecution Desk urged the court to deny the three bail as they were still investigating the matter which would add a third charge to the two counts.
The Prosecution Desk said that it was exploring evidence to charge the three with a count of endangering human life by selling liquor which was not approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
Magistrate Gitari, however, released the three on a cash bail of Sh5,000 each with surety of a similar amount.
She said that the Prosecution Desk had enough time to consolidate all the charges adding that allowing the Desk to take more time will drag the case. The case will be heard in July 20, this year.
