Members of Nakuru County Assembly (MCAs) on Wednesday disagreed over who should be the next Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company (Nawassco) managing director. The brawling came after the MD, John Cheruiyot, was sent on compulsory leave by the Nawassco board before his term expires next month. Making good their threat to storm Nawassco offices, URP-allied MCAs led by Solai MCA Paul Chebor went to the company’s headquarters to enquire why Cheruiyot was sent on compulsory leave. Shortly after, a group of TNA elected ward representatives, which supports acting MD James Ng'ang’a, came in led by John Gichangi. A confrontation started with each side blaming the other for the happenings at water services company. Workers at the company were unable to control the rowdy MCAs and security guards were called in to intervene. Eventually, Cheruiyot’s supporters were forced out of the compound, leaving Ng’ang’a’s supporters at the Nawassco compound. John Gichangi said, "The time for outsiders to rule is over and it is now our time to take over the leadership." Cheruiyot has held the position for two terms in which he is alleged to have never gone for leave for fear of being ousted from office. The acting MD was suggested by the board until the vacancy is advertised in July.
