Candidates sitting for annual KCPE national exams from North Mugirango constituency in Nyamira will be in a fierce contest to secure free sponsorship from local leadership in their four years in secondary schools.
Through area MP Charles Geni's initiative, dubbed Geni Foundation, students who will manage to get direct enrolment to public national schools will have their fee paid for four years.
Speaking on Tuesday at Nyamusi primary school, the foundation’s director, Elijah Omari, said the foundation had given children from public schools first priority given the endurance they have gone through in a month long teachers strike.
“We want to challenge our candidates to work hard and secure places in national secondary schools. The area MP through the foundation will pay fee for those who will excel. We gave public schools first priority reasonably because of the strike that has just ended,” he said.
The Foundation will also offset fee balances for great performers from private schools who will manage a slot in the national schools by half with other goodies expected to be given to top performers.
“We don’t discriminate because all these candidates are ours and we have to care. Those from private schools will be given half sponsorship. Top candidates will also get several other academic rewards to start their lives in high schools,” he added.
