Catholic Diocese of Eldoret Arch Bishop Cornelius Korir has urged TSC to solve the teachers' salary increment amicably by paying them what they deserve for them to go back to school.
Speaking at the church's premises after Sunday church service, Korir said that it is sad the way TSC is playing delaying tactics day in day out in courts appealing for the 'rightfully' given increment to teachers.
"TSC should pay their 50-60% pay increase as awarded to them by the industrial court, court of appeal and thereafter upheld by the supreme court, and since Kenya is a country that believes in the rule of law, TSC should also follow suit and pay teachers their dues for them to end their strike," he said.
He reiteriated that students are the most affected, since they have wasted their precious time that could be used in class, further noting that their counter parts in private schools are continuing with their studies and yet most of them will be sitting for their national exams come the end of the year.
"I urge president Uhuru Kenyatta to come out and save the situation, he has been so quite and yet the situation is unbearable where schools have been closed and students staying with their parents at home, he should find alternative ways to pay the teachers since he is the head of state," he said.
"If the pay increase will not be effected, the strike will continue for the longest time and definitely performance in public schools which are mostly inhabited by children from poor background will be very poor," he concluded.
